The Schools Tree Planting Project an initiative
spearheaded by Child Care Foundation Uganda aims not only to restore the
depleted environmental resources by planting more trees in communities, but
also encouraging schools and school children in particular, take an integral
part in planting trees not only in their school compounds but in their
communities too. In essence the project aims at empowering school children
become environmental stewards within their own communities. We work in Jinja District- Uganda where we have so far covered 8 schools planting trees more especially fruit trees.
Project Background:
Climate Change is now affecting every Country on every continent. It is disrupting national economies and affecting lives, costing people, communities and countries dearly today and even tomorrow. People are experiencing significant impacts of Climate Change which include, changing weather patterns, raising seal level and more extreme weather events. The green house emissions from human activities are driving global temperatures to continue to rise. They are now at their highest. Without action the world's average surface temperature is projected to rise and surpass 3 degrees cellicius. Some areas are expected to warm even more and this is likely to affect vulnerable groups (women, children and elderly). It was due to this grim background that the Schools Tree Project was formed not only to tackle Climate Change but also teach children schools on ways to fight climate change.
